Weight Training Tips & Mistakes
If you want to lose weight and enjoy a firmer and more attractive body, weight training is a great way to get results fast while improving your overall health. However, as with all good things, there is some risk involved.
If you can avoid making these four common mistakes, you will be much better off than most people, and you will enjoy better results with less risk at the same time.
Mistake #1: Not Warming Up
Don’t just jump into the weight room and start lifting weights – this can be very detrimental to your body, even resulting in strains and other possible serious injuries. Spend at least ten minutes warming up – whether that’s walking on the treadmill, doing jumping jacks, or using the elliptical is up to you. Of course, it’s also good to do a similar activity at the end of your workout to cool down.
Mistake #2: Taking Long Breaks
It’s good to take breaks while you work out. Many people make the mistake of never taking a break, which is bad. But even more people make the simple mistake of taking breaks that are too long. If you wait too long between doing a set, your body will cool down, which can get rid of the ever-important momentum. Limit your breaks to 30 or 45 seconds, or a minute at the most.
Mistake #3: Holding Your Breath
While it may seem natural to hold your breath while you are working out, it is actually not very good for you. First of all, it is important for you to get oxygen to all of your muscles. Secondly, it will make your muscles tighten up quickly, which can result in strains and other injuries.
Mistake #4: Stagnating
Many people struggle with weight lifting eventually, but over time they become comfortable, and their reps begin to become less challenging. While it is good that you are able to experience these results, you should take a step up whenever a certain workout routine begins to feel easy. If you aren’t being challenged, you aren’t growing!
By avoiding these four simple mistakes in the weight training room, you can be safer and more efficient in your workout routine, which will certainly pay off in the long run.
